Whoever wrote this article knows nothing about headphones. Where are Stax? The Sennheiser HD800S is the only set of cans that belongs on this list. Bose sure doesn’t. Where are the Audeze LCD-2, LCD-3, LCD-4, etc.? Where is the Beyerdynamic T1? Sennheiser classics HD600 and HD650 would blow most of these cans out of the water. If you’re going to talk Grado, why leave out the PS1000, GS1000, RS1, PS500, etc.? Did Fostex stop making headphones?

If you can find a pair of the Sony MDR-V6 headphones…buy them. I sold mid to high-end audio for almost 25 years and they are still the headphones of choice for not only me, but a huge number of people around the world. They are seen as the industry standard.

Monoprice sells a lot of genuinely horrible chinese junk (Syba, Startech…with the brand concealed til you receive it…) and deletes negative reviews. I don’t care if they DO have some good products, I’d generally avoid using them just for that dishonest behavior.

Their warranty is basically crap, too. Only a year at best vs 3+ years for most mainstream brands.

You guys must be HIGH!!!! The ATH-M50x sound no better than the M40x. The 40s have a better sound stage, are relatively neutral overall, and are significantly less than the M50s. Why would I spend the extra cash on a set of headphones that are not any better built, not significantly better sounding and offer nothing more than a higher price tag?

So you have a section called best money can buy and the most expensive is still less than $700… You should try out the Stax SR-009 with a Headamp Blue Hawaii and a Chord Dave. That setup is pushing $20,000 and still isn’t anywhere the most expensive, you can get Sennheiser Orpheus 2 that is $55,000. The most expensive you can get is around $150,000. I think you need to look over your tests again and look at some better headphones…
